IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON FEEDING MONKEY NUTS TO PARROTS
nI have be asked by a customer of ours to share the following information
about feeding monkey nuts to Parrots and Parakeets. Sadly they have just lost their African Grey Parrot, who was just 6 mths old.
Monkey nuts are best left off a Parrot or Parakeets menu as the can cause death, due to a spore called "Aspergillosis" that can grow within the shell. They are black mould like spores, the shell only needs to be cracked by a birds beak, and if a spore is present, it will enter the birds resperitory, and begin its silent deadly damage. It is sometimes refered to as the "SILENT PARROT KILLER" because thats exactly what it is.
There are many articles on this subject available on the internet , you can read them by simply typing into google "monkey nuts bad for parrots"
Parrots NEVER eat them in the wild, so they dont need them in their diet
These nuts actually grow under the ground simular to a potatoe plant. This means they are out of reach to birds.
If your parrot mix contains monkey nuts, simply remove them, and throw them to the wildlife, as its a Parrot/Parakeet killer, and seems not to affect wild birds.(There are also seed mixes that come without monkey uts, and also mixes available for each species...please contact me for more info about these)
If you wish to feed nuts, there are many other nuts available including Palm nuts, Pine nuts, which they relish.

I hope this article prevents any further needless deaths, and helps educate anyone who was unaware of this problem                                      Tracy-Ann x

         Latest News & Information

We are pleased to announce that due to overwhelming demand for our hand reared birds and keeping up with our customer demands, we have decided to greatly increase our breeding pairs. We are now in the process of planning out and building a very large birdroom to house 40 new pairs of Macaws concisting of (Blue & Golds, Green Wings, Scarlets and  Hyacinths) The birdroom will also be used to house 20 new pairs of African Greys, with room to increase further pairs if needed. We have been wanting to do this for a very long time now, as each year the pressure on us to meet the demand for hand reared birds always increases. As for me, I just want to own all the birds on the planet......lol and will never be saticfied with what weve got. As for Sue, she could see that going ahead with this project makes perfect sense as our aim is to never let anyone down and to keep all our customers happy. There is a ton of work ahead to complete this, and i will be doing a lot of the building myself. Ive built many aviaries in the past, but nothing on this scale. Once all the flights are built and the U/V lighting is completed, i will post some photos of the project. We already have the birds waiting, but obviously i wont be able to move them in or take photos until they are released into their finished flights/aviaries. I will start posting photos as soon as possible.
